The Cycling Techniques that SportActive’s Mallorca Training Camp Improves
At SportActive we continually strive to make you a better cyclist. To do this, our head coach Martin and his team, together with cycling legend Sean Kelly, have put together a comprehensive cycling programme designed to improve the important aspects of your cycling. As you progress through the week you will find your gear use, braking, cornering, and group riding skills develop to a higher level. This makes you a better rider.
Our cycle training holiday takes place in Mallorca. We have a dedicated cycling centre based in Alcudia which is the perfect location for a cycling camp as it is situated on flatter terrain, making it perfect for warm up and warm down rides. The Tramuntana mountain range provides a good hill climbing challenge where you can put all you learn into practice. Pro peloton teams such as Team Sky train here in the off season.
After your SportActive cycling holiday, you will know more about cycling than you did before. You will feel more confident in the saddle and you will be inspired to become a better rider. This post looks at some of the techniques we concentrate on.
Group Riding
Group riding is a very important technique to master. You will ride further for less effort, allowing you to cover greater distances. Our cycle training teaches you the techniques and rules of riding in a group. Mistakes have to be avoided as they could cause problems on a group ride which could transform into accidents.
Cornering
Cornering is another aspect of cycling you’d be wise to perfect. It is essential when riding in a group that you know how to corner so that you do not disrupt the peloton. It is not just pelotons where cornering is important. Good cornering technique will see you maintain your momentum and not waste energy accelerating out of a bend.
Gear Use
Using your gears correctly is very important to maximising your energy and efficiency. If you can master this technique arduous hill climbs become easier as none of your effort is wasted in the wrong gear. Gears were designed to make cycling more energy efficient. This is why we focus on this aspect to improve your cycling.
Braking
Braking is not just an essential safety aspect of cycling; it is also a necessary technique to perfect for good road cycling performance. Using the brakes too hard will see you kill your momentum and disrupt pelotons, too little and a serious accident could ensue. Our cycle training tours concentrate considerably on this aspect of cycling.
Hill Climbing
Hill climbing requires a technique all of its own especially for riding the cols of legend. In many respect cyclists measure themselves at how good their hill climbing technique is, and our training ensures that you will be able to climb hills as efficiently and quickly as possible.
Our training has been designed to eradicate the common mistakes that riders make who have never had professional coaching. These mistakes will slow you down and hinder your enjoyment of the sport. The best way to make the most of your time in the saddle is to book a SportActive cycling camp, and become the best rider you can be.
