With the New Year approaching you are probably keen to get back out on the road and build your base miles. You may have received several good cycling Christmas presents and you want to put them to the test. Perhaps you have a sportive approaching and want to ensure you achieve a good time.
To help you on the path to better cycling here are New Year resolutions to help you get back on two wheels and work on your technique and fitness and progress.
Set a Cycling Schedule
Once you set out a schedule for your cycling you have something to commit to. Try and identify the days when you can get out on the road and stick to it as much as possible. You can track your progress using apps such as Strava or simply make notes using a trusty pencil and paper.
The good thing about a schedule and tracking your progress is that you can see improvements. This is a great motivator and an important step to achieving your potential.
Set a Goal
Goals are another way to keep us on two wheels as much as possible. A sportive, a cycling event, a destination all make for great cycling goals. Again, seeing progress is a great motivator in itself, but to know that you need to get into shape for a forthcoming event is arguably an even better one.
Join a Cycling Club
Joining a cycling club turns our sport into a social gathering as well as a place to improve your base miles. Once you’ve broken the ice you will meet like-minded people and you will find that many are eager to share knowledge and tips. You will get a chance to practice group riding skills, and you will have an incentive to keep riding.
Cycle to Work
If it is possible to cycle to work relatively safely then it is a good idea to commute by bike. You can treat it as a training ride. So take notes of your times and focus on the ride as if you were going out for a two-hour spin. Cycling to work helps you maintain fitness and health as well as providing a chance to work on technique.
Ride in a Cycling Training Camp
Cycling training camps are a great way to improve your cycling and keep enthused to get on the saddle. The best ones operate in Mallorca where pro peloton team riders can be seen putting in the miles getting ready for the next season.
The better camps offer pro coaching advice and like a cycling club, you will meet like-minded people which whom you can share experiences.
With this in mind consider our Early Season Camp. It makes the perfect start for cycling in the year ahead.
