The Ventoux Challenge Rides in August 2018(Date 04th-11th August)
The Mont Ventoux tour, which is your chance to ride the legendary mountain that the pros fear is now taking place in August as opposed to September.
Ventoux features 22kms of climb, hors category cols, and an altitude of 1909m. Considered to be one of the hardest climbs in cycling, you will encounter both a physical and psychological test as you ascend the Giant of Provence.
Although tough, Ventoux is not impossible. You will have full support, advice, and encouragement as you ride mile after mile to the summit. It is a col that is hard for everyone to climb even seasoned pros.
In fact, regardless of whether you’re a pro or an amateur, every cyclist struggles to ride Ventoux. As you take on hors category gradients you understand the words of philosopher Roland Bartes: "The Ventoux is a god of Evil, to which sacrifices must be made. It never forgives weakness and extracts an unfair tribute of suffering." You will think about stopping and turning back. You will ask yourself like every rider who takes on Ventoux four simple words. ‘Can I do this?’
Then, you break the tree line at Chalet Reynard and you can see the tower in the distance and with 6 kms to go you know you are going to make it. The Beast of Provence has thrown everything at you and you have conquered it.
The challenge is matched by the sense of achievement. You will feel relief and joy. You will experience something profound, meaningful, and satisfying. Savour this accomplishment as you have earned it.
The views from the top of Ventoux are breathtaking and rewarding. The mountain towers above Provence and taking all of this in after scaling the col has to be experienced.
The descent is a reward well earned and a challenge in its own right.
