Things to do When Not on a Bike in Mallorca
Although you’re here for the fantastic cycling, Alcúdia and wider Mallorca are worth a mention too. The home of the SportActive Cycling Centre, Alcúdia, on Mallorca’s north coast, is truly beautiful. As SportActive cycle tours finish in the early afternoons, you have plenty of time to explore. If your partner isn’t cycling, this guide will give them pointers as to what to do while you’re cycling from place to place.
Much of what is featured in this blog article is easily reachable from the SportActive Cycling Centre.
Enjoy the Beach
Playa d'Alcúdia is a beautiful soft sand beach. It has earned a Blue Flag for cleanliness and sustainability and in an island known for rocky coves, the beach is a real gem. The beach stretches for 3.5 km and is perfect to catch some rays, dine on delicious Mediterranean cuisine, or enjoy water sports. The choice is yours.
Visit the Old Town
Alcúdia’s Old Town is a delight and a true relic of the past. You’ll arrive through a walled gate that once would have been only accessible via a drawbridge. As you enter the narrow medieval streets you’re greeted by boutique shops, lively piazzas, and homes that once housed nobility.
Gems here include Sant Jaume church famed for its beauty and gothic architecture, the most intact medieval wall in the world, and the remains of the ancient Roman city of Pollentia, one of the most significant archaeological finds on the island. It is believed to date back to 123 BC and has the smallest amphitheatre in Spain.
You’ll find it just outside of the town walls and both the amphitheatre and La Portella residential area are open to the public. Why not visit Museu Monogràfic to see the artefacts found at this site?
Visit the Marina
It’s worth visiting the marina just for the view of the Mediterranean Sea and the glorious sites of yachts and boat masts that reach into the sky. The promenade is home to find restaurants, bars, and shops.
Many come for a glass of something cool or to peruse the market that visits once a week.
Discover Port de Alcudiamar Marina
Shop to You Drop
There are plenty of stores in Alcúdia including high street brands and boutique shops. As well as stores you’ll find markets that are set up in piazzas and on the marina. Many stalls sell fruit and vegetables as well as toys, leather goods, jewellery, and clothes.
The Alcúdia shopping experience is one of the best and many take the time to explore stores that are local to Mallorca.
Wine and Dine
Mallorca offers excellent local and international cuisine whether you want dinner at 8, or grab lunch before moving on to the next amazing thing to see. Dining can take the form of Michelin star restaurants down to more affordable options, so there is something to suit all pallets and budgets.
Many dine at the marina which offers food from around the world including excellent seafood options. It is only a ten minute stroll from the Hotel Zafiro Tropic.
Take a Boat Tour
There are plenty of boat tours which show you this beautiful Balearic island from the sea. There are several kinds of tours you can take, including glass bottomed boats allowing you to view all the life beneath the waves, to more standard boat trips which take you on a dedicated tour.
You may want to charter your own boat and set your own course.
Waterpark Fun
The Alcúdia Hidropark offers everything kids could ever want. Bouncy castles, water slides, paintballing and mini golf. If you have children no doubt you’ll be spending at least a day here enjoying the water and the attractions.
Nightlife
Alcúdia’s nightlife is varied and vibrant. The Banana Club offers themed nights and drink offers, while the Menta Club has a resident house DJ and the largest in this part of the island. More sedate offerings can be had too including 50oceans located in Malpas.
Water Sports
If you’re a fan of snorkelling or kayaking and similar activities you’re in luck. Port d’Alcúdia has plenty of offerings for you to enjoy the ocean. Equipment and guides can be found at the beach and the marina.
