Could you be a 'Ventoux Superhero'?
"Le Club des Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux"
Mont Ventoux’s reputation as being one of the toughest climbs in cycling is well deserved. We have written extensively about it and every year we take groups up the mountain the pros respect. You can see a few pictures our brave riders who conquered the col this year below.
You can never underestimate the achievement of riding Ventoux. In case you didn’t know, let’s recap on what you face when you take on the Giant of Provence.
Ventoux has gradients of 10% plus. This really hits when you break the tree line at Chalet Reynard. You emerge with only 6 kms to go, or if you are having a bad day, with 6 kms left to ride before you can stop. This is compounded by the fact that the landscape is barren, like you were riding on the moon. Due to Ventoux’s microclimate, you could easily emerge to high winds, rain, and lightening, even though you entered the ride in brilliant sunshine at the start.
This has made Mont Ventoux the stuff of legend.
Could you be a 'Ventoux Superhero'?
To become a member of Le Club des Cinglés du Mont Ventoux you must take on the Beast of Provence, riding the three routes from Bédoin, Malaucène et Sault on the same day. This is incredibly difficult to do, as you will face the above difficulties three times in one day. That is what's required to become a 'Ventoux Superhero'.
That said, should you achieve it your name will be recorded and immortalised by the club. You can credibly say you’re an exceptional cyclist for having done it.
This year, after our Mont Ventoux tour, we helped a group of cyclists become members of this exclusive club on a custom cycling tour.
If you’re interested in joining Le Club des Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux, click here and book a custom cycling tour. We would recommend coming on our regular Mont Ventoux Challenge Cycling Holiday first, however, so you know what to expect.
Congratulations to our 2016 Mont Ventoux cyclists, you achieved something incredible reaching the top.
