"The Ventoux is a god of Evil, to which sacrifices must be made. It never forgives weakness
and extracts an unfair tribute of suffering." - Roland Barthes, philosopher.
Ventoux is considered one of the toughest climbs in cycling. The 12%+ gradients are tough but the psychological challenge is so much tougher.
Sometimes kind, sometimes cruel this col demands focus as well as leg power. When you break the tree line at Chalet Reynard the weather can be completely different from when you started. This can make a real impact especially when you consider from this point you’re surrounded by a barren rocky landscape.
If you’re having a good day, you’ll know you’re only 6 kms away from reaching your goal. If you’re having a bad day, 6 kms will seem like 16!
Ventoux has been used in the Tour de France and was used in the 2016 tournament. This will be your chance to test your limits on the col the pros fear and have your own Tour de France experience, fully supported!
One of our riders commented, “The beauty and charm of Provence in itself with the highlight
of the astonishing Mount Ventoux, mixed with the wonderful sense of freedom and achievement while riding my bike definitely deserves a special mentioned on my diary.
“I thank you for providing the frame for this to take place, I loved the fact that though it was an ‘organized’ trip I did not feel encrusted on a set timetable. I had fun, I was challenged, I learnt, I met new people, I saw new places… I was in pain, in shock, in love…
“Anyway, I think you get the idea. I LOVE my SportActive experience!”
Although Mont Ventoux is a hard climb, we ensure you have the support you need to reach the top. We carry spare parts to deal with issues on the Ventoux climbs together with your personal items so they are on hand when you need them.
As well as climbing Ventoux from two sides you will also ride other challenging rides on roads used in Paris Nice and the Tour de France.
